فواز حداد كاتب سوري من مواليد دمشق، حائز على إجازه في الحقوق من جامعة دمشق. كتب القصة القصيرة و المسرح و الرواية، لكنه لم ينشر أياً منها حتى سنة 1991. شارك كمُحكِّم في مسابقة حنا مينه للرواية، ومسابقة المزرعة للرواية في السويداء. كذلك في الإعداد لموسوعة "رواية اسمها سورية".
تفرّغ للعمل الروائي كلياً في عام 1998 ,رُشِّح عن رواية المترجم الخائن لل الجائزة العالمية للرواية العربية "بوكر" القائمة القصيرة لعام 2009 ورُشِّحت روايته "جنود الله" لجائزة البوكر القائمة الطويلة لعام 2010، وترجمت إلى الألمانية تحت عنوان "سماء الله الدامية" عن دار نشر أوفباو. ورُشِّح أيضاً لجائزة روكرت الألمانية لعام 2013 عن الرواية نفسها.

لم يخطئ، نحن في رواية كبرى. ويدرك في الوقت نفسه أنها عصية على الفهم، أسرفت في التخفي، وأفرط في تجاهلها. كانت حافلة بالمعميات والموت والدماء، عبثيتها غطاء لقسوتها، الحرب أودت بمساراتها إلى الوقوف على حافة الهاوية، والشهداء جعلوا منها قضية عظيمة. أما غياب الله، فمنشأه البحث عنه. لن تجد القصص نهاياتها إلا بوضع خاتمة ما مؤقتة لرواية شارفت على نهاية لا نهاية لها، قد تباغته بنهاية لن تكون إلا انفجاراً هائلاً، ليته يجد قبل حلولها فاصلاً يسمح له بفسحة صغيرة من السلام لا الأمان.
"بماذا تفكر؟".
"أفكر في أن البشر هم سعادة البشر، أو تعاستهم. وأفكر أيضاً، لو أن الناس كانوا أكثر وعياً لوفروا على أنفسهم عذابات كثيرة".
لم يكن عسيراً عليه بعدما أزاح قصصاً لا يملك من أمرها شيئاً، الإعتراف بما يخشاه؛ نحن في عالم مدمر، فلماذا لا نكون حطاماً؟ شفاؤنا يتطلب شفاء عالم بأسره.
