لقد جاءت الشريعة الإسلامية في الأساس لتحقيق التيسير ورفع المشقة والحرج؛ قال تعالى في كتابه العزيز: "يُرِيدُ اللهُ بِكُمُ الْيُسْرَ وَلاَ يُرِيدُ بِكُمُ الْعُسْرَ"،وقال: "وَمَا جَعَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ مِنْ حَرَجٍ". كما ذُكر من أخلاق رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه: لم يكن يخيَّر بين أمرين إلا اختار أيسرهما، ما لم يكن إثمًا. وكان سفيان الثوري يقول: «ليس العلم في التشديد؛ فإنه يحسنه كل أحد»!! فالجمود والتشديد يعطيان انطباعًا خاطئًا عن الشريعة، ويصوران للناس أن طاعة الله أمر عسير ومشقة وتعب؛ مما يغري كثيرين بالإعراض عن «جملة الشريعة» كما يقول الإمام ابن قيم الجوزية! وانطلاقًا من هذا المبدأ الشرعي الصحيح الصريح يصدر هذا الكتاب، حاملاً بين دفتيه معاني سامية جاءت بها الشريعة؛ مؤصلاً لمعاني الربانية والحب والحرية، محاولاً أن يخلص تلك المعاني من كثير مما لحق بها من مزايدات أو انتقاصات ليست هي من أصل الشريعة في شيء، وفي ذات الوقت محاربًا للسلبية والتخاذل ومحاولة التملص من الأخطاء وإسقاطها على الغير، فاتحًا صفحة جديدة في الحوار مع الآخر، مهما كان هذا الآخر، يعتمد فيها على الانفتاح والتعقل والبصيرة، مصداقًا لقوله تعالى في كتابه الكريم: "قُلْ هَذِهِ سَبِيلِي أَدْعُو إِلَى اللهِ عَلَى بَصِيرَةٍ أَنَا وَمَنِ اتَّبَعَنِي" [يوسف: 108].
