هاجس هذه الكتابات هو تسجيل الكاتب رحلاته التي قام بها إلى اليمن، لبنان، عُمان، سورية، المغرب وكندا، وهي كتابات تذهب إلى مدى أبعد سواء في الأمكنة أو من ما تطرحه هذه الأمكنة وشخوصها وسياقاتها التاريخية والاجتماعية والثقافية من أسئلة، وذلك انطلاقا من رؤية ذاتية تنحاز وتتعاطف، بل وتتورط، في تبني السؤال وإعادة طرحه. إلى جانب ذلك فصاحب الرحلات هذه يحتفي بالمكان وشخوصه مجرد المرور بها (حتى عندما يكون للرحلة غرض آخر) مرور الكرام. إنها محاولة للتوقف في المكان وأمامه والإنصات إلى أصواته الكبيرة والصغيرة على السواء، في هذه الكتابات يشير إلى صعوبة عبور المكان العربي، كما كان يفعل أسلافنا العابرون الكبار في جغرافيا واقعية مترامية الأطراف وأخرى متخيلة لا يحدّها حدّ. فنحن نعيش اليوم في عالم عربي استوت فيه الحدود على نحو قاطع وسيبحث بالأختام والأعلام والأناشيد الوطنية، فالسفر في جواز عربي في المكان العربي هو كالسفر بين عوالم منفصلة ومتباعدة ترمق بعضها البعض شزراً، هذا إن لم يصل التنافر بينها إلى حد العداء السافر. ولعل هذا يفسر (جزئيا على الأقل) ضآلة، إن لم نقل انعدام، كتابة الرحلة عن العالم العربي بأقلام أبنائه.
