كاتب مصري من مواليد سوهاج العام 1972.
حصل على بكالوريوس الطب من جامعة القاهرة عام 1997 صدر له كتابه الأول "الدنيا أجمل من الجنة" عن دار النهار في عام 2001 ثم صدر في عدة طبعات عربية وطبعة إنجليزية، وفيه يروي جوانب من سيرته الذاتية وانضمامه للجماعات الإسلامية في التسعينيات من القرن الماضي وقصة تعرضه للإعتقال نتيجة هذا الإنضمام والإنخراط، كما يتطرق أيضا لسلوك الجماعات المتطرفة في العقود الثلاثة الأخيرة من القرن العشرين، والحوادث الإرهابية التي داهمت المجتمع المصري، وحالات تلك الفترة التي قضاها بين صفوف الجماعة الإسلامية قبل أن يخرج منها، ويتوجه عام 1999 إلى لندن حيث يعش فيها منذ تاريخ المغادرة ويعمل هناك بهيئة الإذاعة البريطانية "بي بي سي العربية".
كما صدرت له بعد ذلك روايتان الأولى "نيجاتيف" عن دار ميريت عام 2004.
والثانية "رقصة شرقية/ طقوس ميلاد وغياب ابن الرفاعية المنتظر" عن دار العين في منتصف 2010، وتقع في 600 صفحة من القطع المتوسط، وهي الرواية التي وصلت إلى اللائحة الطويلة ثم القصيرة لجائزة البوكر.

أسماء الحضور، مضبطة الجلسة، مكان الإجتماع القادم، خطوات الحملة، أسماء بعض المصادر التي تسرب المعلومات من داخل الوزارة، كل هذه الوثائق كانت على مكتب الوزير هدية من السماء، تماماً كما كانت لفافة المؤكسج على رأس الصحفي هدية من السماء. الوزير بنفسه استقبل الصحفي في مكتبه، وسلم عليه وأعطاه منديلاً أصفر وشرح له معاني الألوان، ثم رفع الوزير كرافتته ومشاها على وجه الصحفي وداعب بطرفها السفلي المثلث مقدمة أنف الصحفي وشفتيه. داعب الوزير بكرافتته شفتي الصحفي. فتح الصحفي فمه والتقط الطرف بشفتيه وسحبه بلسانه إلى الداخل، ثم أمسك الكرافته بيده ومسح بلسانه عليها حتى العنق، وهو يضحك ويقول "هوف، هوف، هوف هوف". (كتاب الحوادث- حو: 1شر).
