أوزير" في الرواية الجديدة هو اسم القرية التي تدور بها الأحداث في الحقبة الزمنية بين الحملة الفرنسية على مصر، وحكم الوالي محمد علي الكبير، وكانت القرية قد تعرضت لفيضان قضى عليها ودمرها تماما، إلى أن جاء الحاج "عمران"، وأعاد بناءها وتعميرها، وحكمها بالعدل والتسامح طوال حياته، لتنتقل مقاليد الأمور بعد ذلك إلى حفيده "عامر" الذي يختلف تماما عن جده، فتدخل القرية في ليل طويل بلا نهاية من الظلم والطغيان واستغلال الدين لتحقيق مكاسب سياسية. ويستمر الظلام مخيما على قرية أوزير التي لا يكتب لا أن ترى نور الفجر حتى نهاية الرواية.
