ولد محمود لطفي أحمد الريماوي في بيت ريما/ رام الله 2 أكتوبر من عام 1948، درس لمدة سنتين في جامعة بيروت العربية (تخصص لغة عربية) عمل صحفياً في بيروت خلال العامية 1968-1969، وصحفياً في الكويت خلال السنوات، 1973-1987 وصحفياً في عمان منذ 1987 وحتى الآن وتراوح عمله بين أن يكون كاتباً ومحرراً ومسؤولاً عن التحرير الصحفي وهو كاتب أردني عضو رابطة الكتاب الأردنيين، ونقابة الصحفيين الأردنيين، واتحاد الصحفين العرب ، واتحاد العرب، وقد حصل على جائزة فلسطين للقصة القصيرة عام 1997 بعد عدد من المجموعات القصصية التي ثبت فيها الأديب الفلسطيني الأردني نفسه قاصا متميزا يتعامل بحساسية شديدة مع الكلمة، نابشا تفاصيل الحياة بعين ترى ما لا تراه العين التقليدية، انتقل محمود الريماوي إلى عالم الرواية بإصداره رواية «من يؤنس السيدة»، عن دار فضاءات في عمّان سبق أن أصدر محمود الريماوي عشر مجموعات قصصية أولها في العام 1972، والأخيرة "رجوع الطائر" في العام 2008.
له كتابا نصوص: "إخوة وحيدون"، و"كل ما في الأمر ".
فاز عام 1997 بجائزة فلسطين للقصة القصيرة عن مجموعته " القطار".
ترجمت بعض قصصه الى الانجليزية والفرنسية

تتابع الرواية حياة أم يوسف الأرملة الوحيدة في مدينة الزرقا شمال العاصمة الأردنية، التي جاءت من فلسطين صغيرة مع عائلتها هربا من الاحتلال الإسرائيلي، حتى تزوجت وبنت عائلة بنفسها، قبل أن يتوفى الزوج ويرحل الأبناء كل إلى مستقر. تعثر أم يوسف على سلحفاة صغيرة في الطريق، وتقرر أن تجلبها معها إلى البيت لتؤنسها. وكأن بهذا الحيوان الصغير يصير معادلا للمرأة الوحيدة التي لا تحكي كثيرا، المهمومة بعائلة انتهت إلى التشرذم المحكوم بظروف الحياة والشتات. المرأة الأخرى، جارتها المسيحية أم عوني، تسندها وتتعاطف معها وتروي بعضا من حياة الجارة. لكن في بيتها، هي ابنة المنطقة الأصلية، تحدث تفاصيل تعج بالحياة والفرح، من بيع وشراء للسكن وزواج للأبناء. وضع يكشف بالمقارنة، أن بيت الجارة الوحيدة، خال من ضجيج الحياة، أشبه بصدفة السلحفاة الساكنة المعتمة
