يطمح هذا الكتاب من خلال الاستفادة من المرجعيات النقدية الجديدة، خاصة خطاب ما بعد الاستعمار إلى الإصغاء لأهم الأسئلة الثقافية التي تطرحها الرواية العربية، إذ من شأن كل قراءة جديدة أن تبوئ الرواية، باعتبارها نصا، حضورا مختلفا يحفل بدلالات وأبعاد جديدة. وعندما نتخذ من الرواية العربية المعاصرة موضوعا للقراءة استنادا إلى هذه المرجعيات النقدية التي تتعين ثمرة جدل فكري عميق في الأوساط النقدية العربية والغربية، باعتبارها خطابا تخييليا يشتبك بالثقافة في مستوييها المؤسِّس والمؤسَّس، فإننا نطمح من خلال ذلك كله إلى تحقيق هدفين أساسيين: تقديم مقترح جديد في قراءة الرواية العربية يستفيد من التحولات التي تعرفها النظرية الأدبية المعاصرة، والانفتاح الذي يطبع ممارساتها الراهنة على حقول واختصاصات شديدة الاختلاف، ومنها حقل الدراسات الثقافية وما يندرج في إطارها من تيارات فكرية ونظرية عديدة منها تيار ما بعد الاستعمار. اجتراح زوايا جديدة لقراءة الأدب تعيد إلى دائرة الاهتمام ما كان مهمشا أو مقصيا في الدراسات النقدية السابقة. ومن شأن هذا ألا يعيد للأدب إحالاته المبررة والمشروعة على العالم وحسب وإنما يمكن كذلك من كشف دلالات وأبعاد مغايرة تتجاوز نطاق القيود والضوابط والكوابح التي تضعها المؤسسة لتأكيد هيمنتها.
