وهو كتاب صغير الحجم، كبير القيمة، يمثل محاولة جادة لدق نواقيس الانذار المبكر حول مستقبل الاقتصاد والسياسة والمجتمع فى مصر قبل فوات الآوان. ويناقش – ببساطة – عدداً من القضايا الصعبة. حيث يعالج فى الجزء الأول قضايا نظرية حول ملامح الفئات الرأسمالية الجديدة وأزمة الحراك الاجتماعى والسياسى الراهن. كما يعالج قضايا هامة تشغل بال كل مصرى مثل الخصخصة، والاستثمار الاجنبي المباشر، ومناخ الاستثمار، ومناخ العمل، والشائعات والتوقعات غير الرشيدة فى مجتمعنا. بينما يناقش الجزء الثانى هموم وتحديات المستقبل فى مجالات مهمة مثل دور الجامعة،ومحاربة سرطان الفساد. وينبهنا الدكتور عبد الفضيل من اول صفحة فى كتابه إلى أن هناك "تحديات كبرى تواجه الاقتصاد المصرى والإدارة المجتمعية خلال السنوات القادمة، وتحتاج لمزيد من الأمانة والشجاعة فى التشخيص والبحث عن سبل العلاج القويم قبل أن تتفاقم تلك المشاكل وتصيب المجتمع والأمة فى مقتل، لأن الاستخفاف بالمشاكل والتحديات الكبرى التى تلوح فى الأفق، والتركيز على الحلول الآنية للمشاكل والمسكنات الوقتية دون علاج المشكلات من جذورها هو الطريق نحو مزيد من التدهور نحو الأزمة الشاملة فى الأقتصاد والمجتمع".
