الراهبة الكرملية مريم بواردي من مواليد قرية عبلين والتي عاشت بعد خمسين سنة تقريباً من وفاة الراهبة القديسة تريزيا الطفل يسوع. وقضت مريم بواردي نحو ثلاث وثلاثين سنة من عمرها تنتقل بين فلسطين ومصر وسوريا وفرنسا والهند ثم عادت أخيراً إلى موطنها فلسطين. كانت هذه الراهبة الشرقية تنعم بكثير من المواهب النفسية والإنسانية فأتمت الدور الذي اختاره الله لها بالرغم من أنها لم تتعلم القراءة والكتابة. كان همّها الوحيد الخدمات اليومية الشاقة المألوفة في أديرة الراهبات. ونالت سيرة حياة الراهبة إعجاب مفكرين كبار وهؤلاء كلهم اتفقوا على وصف معلمة الابتداء الأولى للراهبة مريم: " أنها أعجوبة نعمة الله ".
