تدور رواية "لا سما ولا أرض" للروائي عبد المقصود محمد عن كابوس يتكرر لصحفي كبير لمدة 30 عاما يجعله يذهب إلى دكتور نفسي ثم يحكي له عن سر كبير في حياته، وهنا تتوالى الأحداث ويختلط الواقعي بالخيالي لتشعر فجأة وأنت تقرأ الرواية بصدمة كبيرة عندما تبدأ السطور بالكشف عن أسرارها، حالة يمكن تسميتها بالنداهة تأتي وتختفي ليبدأ القارئ بتتبع الفصول تلو الفصول، الرواية خادعة باقتدار وأسلوب التشويق يمثل العمود الفقري للرواية، أما اللغة والحوار فهما موجودان في الرواية بحرفية عالية وذلك لأن الروائي عبد المقصود محمد له عشرات المسلسلات الإذاعية كما أنه قام بتدريس فن السيناريو وتاريخ السينما في كليات الفنون في الوطن العربي، وذلك غير أعماله الروائية (إذا جاء الشفق - هيئة الكتاب، الطيور لن تعود - دار الهلال ،،الخ)
