يؤمل أن يقدّم هذا الكتاب بعض الخدمة والفائدة لكل من يهتم بالاختبارات النفسية ، وأن يسهم بشكل أو بآخر في تطوير معارف وممارسات أولئك الذين يسعون إلى "استثمارها" والإفادة منها في واقعنا من خلال التوسّع في استخدامها لتلبية أغراض متعدّدة، وتوظيفها على النحو الأمثل . و من الأمور التي روعيت عند إعداد هذا الكتاب الابتعاد ما أمكن عن "الحشو" والصيغ التعبيرية المعقدة والميل إلى التبسيط والاختصار إلى حد ما في عرض المادة على ألا يؤدي ذلك إلى السطحية والاختزال " المبتسر" وتشويه الأفكار والمعلومات . هذا مع الإشارة إلى أننا تعمّدنا في اهذا الكتاب إعطاء صورة وافية ومفصلة عن بعض الاختبارات مع أمثلة لبنودها ، كما تعمّدنا التفصيل وتقديم شروح موسّعة في أماكن معينة من الكتاب لإبراز بعض مظاهر التقدّم الذي شهدته حركة القياس في الآونة الأخيرة والتعريف ولو " بغيض من فيض " من إنجازاتها . حيث يتألف هذا الكتاب من خمسة أبواب . يتناول الأول منها معنى الذكاء وطبيعته ، ويتناول بالدراسة والتحليل النظريات العاملية في البناء العقلي ويتصدّى الباب الثاني من هذا الكتاب لاختبارات الذكاء العام بأنواعها. أما الباب الثالث فيقدم ا وصفاً مفصلاً لبعض مقاييس الذكاء الجماعية كمقياس أوتيس - لينون للقدرة المدرسية واختبار القدرات المعرفية واختبارات قدرات طلاب المدرارس والجامعة ، إضافة إلى مقاييس الذكاء المتحررة من أثر الثقافة . وفيما يتصل بالباب الرابع من هذا الكتاب فإنه يتناول مقاييس القدرات الخاصة. كما يتعرض هذا الباب لمقاييس الاستعدادات التي تعلق بمجالات نوعية محددةومن بعدها لمقاييس الإبداع ، مع التعريف بنماذج مهمة منها . والباب الخامس والأخير من هذا الكتاب يتصدى للمسائل والإشكالات المتصلة بقياس الذكاء والقدرات
