نبذة النيل والفرات: طرأت على علم النفس الصناعي تطورات كبيرة في القرن العشرين حيث مهدت فونت لجملة من التطورات منذ أن أنشأ أول معمل لعلم النفس في ليبزج هام 1879. وقد توصل من خلال أبحاثه إلى وضع بعض التوازن السيكولوجية الكمية التي تقابل في صورتها قوانين علم الطبيعة. وقد سار الأمر قدماً منذ ذلك العهد، إذ توصلت الأبحاث الحديثة إلى استخدام القياس السيكولوجي في ميادين عديدة كالتوجيه والاختيار المهني، والقوات المسلحة، والتشخيص الكلينيكي والتوجيه التربوي والتحصيل الدراسي. والقياس السيكولوجي هو القياس الكمي (الإحصائي) على أسس علمية موضوعية لشخصية الفرد وقدراته العقلية وصحته النفسية. إذ يقيس المختصون ما يمكن أني فعله المرء في أداء عمل ما، ويقيسون ما سوف يفعله المرء في موقف ما مستقبلاً. وباستخدام القياس السيكولوجي يمكن التوصل إلى رفع كفاية العمل والكشف عن العوامل التي تسهل الإنتاج أو تعطله. والمؤلف يكرس فصولاً للحديث عن الطريق العملية لقياس الاستعدادات والقدرات والمهارات المهنية والإعداد الصحيح لبرامج مراكز التدريب، كما يقدم شرحاً واضحاً لبعض الأجهزة الحديثة المستخدمة في القياس السيكولوجي.
