قبل عشر سنوات ونيف أصدر محمد زهري حجازي أول كتبه "تأملات في الشعر والحياة" ضم فيه نصوصاً في نقد الشعر، وخواطر من الحياة بالإضافة إلى محاولات قصصية. وها هو يعود في كتابه الجديد "غواية الكتابة" ليتابع رحلته مثابراً على طريقته في قراءة الشعر ونقده والتأمل في شؤون الحياة وشجون المجتمع، مرة يستخدم الأسلوب القصصي الذي يعبر من خلاله عن نزعته الأدبية التي تفسح له المجال للتعبير عن مشاعره ومكنونات نفسه. وعلاقة محمد زهري حجازي بالكتابة قديمة، فقد كان في أول العشرين من عمره، أواسط الخمسينات، حين نشر أول مقالاته في جريدة "السياسة" البيروتية، فلفت انتباه أقرانه الذين شجعوه على مواصلة الكتابة. وبالرغم من سنوات الاغتراب وطلب العيش في الوطن والمهجر لم يتخل يوماً عن قلمه، بل لم يتخل عن رفقة الكتاب الذي لا يفارقه حتى في أوقات العمل. ومع ذلك فإن محمد زهري حجازي لا يقدم نفسه إلا كهاو للأدب، يعرفه القراء من خلال ما ينشره في الصحف والمجلات كالنهار والحياة فضلاً عن الصحف المحلية وخصوصاً مجلة الأديب التي تفسح له حيزاً لكل ما يكتبه. وقارئ هذه المجموعة سيكتشف انحيازه إلى الشعر، يترصد القصيدة، يدقق في معانيها، ويتوقف عند كلماتها ومقاطعها المؤثرة. هكذا يفعل عندما يقرأ قصيدة "الضيف" لنازك الملائكة، إنه يتمثل حالتها الشعورية الغاضبة بسبب ضياع فلسطين فلم تعد تقدر على الفرح.
