تمتلك "ميشيل" شركة خاصة للخدمات المنزلية وتكلف من سيدة مجتمع بالقيام بأعمال بيت ابنها يوماً في الأسبوع والذي لا يعود إليه إلا في وقت متأخر من الليل. تفاجأ الشابة في إحدى المرات المخصصة لبيت الابن الثري الذي يعمل في أعمال سمسرة العقارات وهو موجود بالبيت وفي حالة مرض وحمى نتيجة إصابته بالإنفلونزا. تدهش الشابة عندما تجد الشاب يختلف تماماً عن الصورة التي كونتها عنه كابن عائلة مدلل، فتكتشف أنه شاب رياضي قوي ومليح، وعندما يفيق الشاب من نومه يتصور أنه يهذي عند مشاهدته لـ"ميشيل" وقد صبغت شعرها باللون الأخضر نتيجة خطأ من جارها الذي جرب عليها تركيبة جديدة ويتصور الشاب أنه مات وأن هذه الشابة ذات الشعر الأخضر جنية من العالم الآخر. تتوالى أحداث الرواية المثيرة والكوميدية في آن واحد ويدور صراع بين الفتاة التي هي من الطبقة الفقيرة والشاب الذي هو من طبقة العائلات الثرية.
