يتناول هذا الكتاب في البداية الحديث عن عصمت المجنون وهو أغرب شخصية عرفتها المؤلفة، عصمت هذا رجل أسمر اللون طويل القامة كثيف الحاجبين، أسود العينين وجهه مخيف، الى جانب هيبته له صفات محيرة كثيرة. يمر عصمت كل يوم أمام الفيلا التي نسكنها على ضفاف البوغاز، يتسقط أخباري، كنت أشعر بغضب شديد نحوه، لا أطيق رؤيته أبداً، أهل الحي يعتبرونه جالب الحظ، انتقل الى حينا بعدنا بشهرين أو ثلاثة، جند نفسه لحمايتي وحفظي من كل أذى، كأنه مساعدي وأجنحتي الواقية، تصرفاته كانت تمرضني أحياناً، كنت أتمرد على نفسي قائلة: لماذا يضع هذا المجنون نفسه محامياً لي؟ ألم يجد غيري؟ وأبدأ بالبكاء الحاد. وتتابع المؤلفة روايتها بشكل مثير وذلك لشد القارىء لقراءة هذه الرواية والتمتع بمعانيها.
