أي قلق دائم هذا الذي دفع سندبادنا إلى أن يهجر أحبابه وقصره ووطنه والأمن الذي ينعم به ويرتع فيه أن يتأبط المغامرة ويتوق إلى مغازنة الخطار وركوب الأهوال؟! أي منحى نحت به هواجسه وخيالاته؟ أم تراه حزنه على فراق حبيبته؟ أياً كانت دوافع سندباد إلى رحلته، فمن ذا الذي ينكر عليه حبه للمغامرة وشغفعه بارتياد المجهول وسير أغواره؟ فها هو يرحل إلى جزيرة الواق واق. ثم يصل إلأى جزيرة الهمج ويأسر الهمج رفاقه ويلتهمونهم واحداً إثر الآخر، ويلتقي على جزيرة غربية بعادات غربية وبملكة أغرب. السندباد الذي لا تيهجه القصور ولا ما فيها من ترف ودعة، تسعده فحسب ضحات الأطفال ومرحهم معه، يكتفى بكوخ فقير على شط ناء وتقيد التيجان عقله، فيتركها ويرحل. ها هو ينسل هارباً من الملكة التي تزوجته وأسكنته قصرها ولكن لماذا وإلى أين هذه المرة سندباد؟ والسؤال الذي يعن لي كلما قرأت رحلات سندباد وطفت معه جزره البعيدة والتقيت معه تلك المخلوقات الغربية والمدهشة، هو ممن يفر سندباد وإلى أي شئ يفر؟ تلك الأسئلة حيرت البشر جميعاً ممن نفر نحن البشر وإلى أين نمضي؟
