وجه ابن رشد نقداً لابن سينا في موضوعات عدة، لكن نقده له في مبحث الإلهيات أكثر من غيره من المباحث، وذلك لأهمية هذا المبحث. وقد كان موضوع نقد ابن رشد لابن سينا من المحاور المهمة في فلسفته. وفي هذا الكتاب لم يحمل المؤلف الموضوع أكثر مما يحتمل، ولم يخرجه من حدوده التاريخية والمعرفية. لأنه موضوع يبين نقاط الاختلاف بين فيلسوفين كبيرين في مبحث مهم من مباحث الفلسفة. وقد رأى المؤلف أن هذا الموضوع يخص تراثنا الفلسفي، و تكمن فائدته في التعرف على أسلوب من أساليب النقد الذي مارسه الفلاسفة وقتئذٍ. يعرض المؤلف لطبيعة النص الرشدي، من حيث هو نص شارح لأرسطو، كما يتناول معنى مصطلح "الإلهيات" وعلاقة هذا المبحث بكتاب الميتافيزيقا لأرسطو، وكيفية تعامل الفلاسفة المسلمين معه. كما يجري مقارنة بين إلهيات الشفاء وتفسير ما بعد الطبيعة، من جانب وكتاب الميتافيزيقا من جانب آخر. ويبحث موضوع البرهان الذي اعتمده ابن رشد مقياساً لنقد الفلاسفة. ويبحث المؤلف مسألة الماهية والوجود، ويوضح مقصد ابن سينا بعرضية الواحد والوجود على الماهية والأسس التي اعتمدها للتمييز أو الفصل بينها. ويتناول قسمة ابن سينا للوجود إلى واجب وممكن واعتماده هذه القسمة لإثبات وجود الله. ومن ثم يوضح جزئيات نقد ابن رشد لابن سينا والبدائل التي قدمها. وفي معرض حديثه عن نظرية الفيض عند ابن سينا يوضح الأسس التي قامت عليها هذه النظرية، والنقد الذي وجهه ابن رشد لها.
