هذا الكتاب قال عنه الشيخ عبد الرزاق عفيفي إنه: (من أنفس الشروح, وأوضحها بياناً, وأخصرها عبارة) فهو يتميز بأن مؤلفه – رحمه الله – لم يترك ملمة في العقيدة إلا وشرحها – في الغالب الأعم – وأنه يكثر من استشهاداته بالقرآن الكريم, وبأحاديث المصطفى صلى الله عليه وسلم وبأقوال الصحابة والمفسرين وبأقوال أئمة السلف من المتقدمين والمتأخرين. تعتبر العقيدة الواسطية لشيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية – رحمه الله - من أكثر العقائد السلفية سهولة ويسرا وأوضحها عبارة وأصحها استدلالاً, وأخصرها في الكلمات, وقد وضع الله لهذا الكتاب القبول في الأرض فتلقفه أهل العلم فدرسوه وتدارسوه, وتتابعت عليه الشروح الكثيرة الجليلة, وكان من تلك الشروح كتاب (( شرح العقيدة الواسطية )) للشيخ محمد خليل هراس والذي قال فيه الشيخ عبد الرزاق عفيفي إنه: (من أنفس الشروح, وأوضحها بياناً, وأخصرها عبارة) ومما يميز هذا الشرح أن المؤلف – رحمه الله – لم يترك ملمة في العقيدة إلا وشرحها – في الغالب الأعم – واستشهد في مواضع كثيرة بالقرآن الكريم, وبأحاديث المصطفى صلى الله عليه وسلم وبأقوال الصحابة والمفسرين وبأقوال أئمة السلف من المتقدمين والمتأخرين, كما يميزه أيضاً استعراضه لمقالات الفرق ورد شبههم وتبيين ضلال أئمتهم, فكان هذا الشرح بالفعل كما وصفه الشيخ العفيفي رحمه الله.
