يقول "جوزف فاخوري" في مقدمة كتابه هذا: "في مكتبتي أشياء كثيرة تغفو على الرفوف يتهالك فوقها الغبار وتتعرض من حين لأخر لشظايا الحرب التي تأكل قليلاً أو كثيراً منها حسب مزاجات الرماة وأهوائهم..." بين هذه الأشياء وجد "جوزف فاخوري" مدونات موسيقية نادرة، قد تكون موجودة لدى بعض الناس ولكن وجودها معاً في حلف واحد نادر، وخوفاً على هذه الأوراق من الضياع جمعها في كتاب واحد هو الذي بين يدينا والذي جاء ضاماً بين طياته عدد غير قليل من أغنيات التراث وبعض الألحان العريقة التي عايشت الأجيال الماضية واستمرت إلى أن وصلت إلينا كما أن فيها عدداً من الأغنيات الحديثة التي ينبغي أن تبقى من ذاكرة الشعب وضميره، وهكذا يحتوي الكتاب على النوتة الموسيقية لكل قصيدة، هذا إلى جانب كلمات كل أغنية.
