شكلت الصيغ اللفظية المرحلة الادلى لتطور العلوم الادارية والاقتصادية الا أن تزايد استخدام العلاقات في علم الاقتصاد والادارة وازدياد تعقد النظريات الادارية والاقتصادية اثبت قصور الاسلوب اللفظي في التعبير عن ذلك الاكر الذي أدى إلى الانتقال الى المرحلة الثانية من مراحل التحليل والتمثل باستخدام الأساليب الهندسية ذلك باعتماد التمثيل البياني للعلاقات الاقتصادية والادارية باستخدام كل من الهندسة المستوية والهندسة المجسمة بوصفها وسيلة هامة في التحليل الاقتصادي والاداري ، وعلى الرغم من الفائدة التي تم الحصول عليها من خلال استخدم الأسلوب الهندسي-ولاتزال-إلا أن هذا الأسلوب لم يتمكن من قياس العلاقة لأكثر من ثلاث متغيرات الأمر الذي يعني تقييد التحليل ،خاصة إذا استذكرنا أن العلاقات الاقتصادية والادارية هي علاقات سببية وتضم عدداُ كبيراُ من المتغيرات المستقلة المؤثرة في المتغير المعتمد والتي تمثل الظاهرة من هنا ظهرت الحاجة الى اعتماد الأساليب الرياضية بوصفها انعكاساُ لحقيقة أساسية مفادها أن الأساليب اللفظية والهندسية لم تعد قادرة على تحقيق تحليل إداري واقتصادي منطقي ودقيق.
