لا يمكن قراءة قصائد الشاعرة الفلسطينية والاعلامية أسماء الحاج بمعزل عن التفكير في أثر الترحال على تركيب عبارتها وصياغة معاناتها المتنقلة بين بيروت وعمّان ورام الله.
ثلاث مدن تشكّل ثالوثاً مركّباً على تماس مباشر مع القضية الفسطينية وتطوراتها اليومية.
دائماً تجد أسماء وقتاً للحب والعاطفة في خضم معمعة الوجع التي تبدأ بالحديث عنها من عنوان كتابها الأول "أشد وجعاً من الماء".
يدخل القارىء الى متون الديوان من عنوان الوجع ليعيش في تفاصيله.
وجع يتمثّل أحياناً بتجارب عاطفية لم تستمر، وفراق الأحبة، لا سيما أولادها الثلاثة الذين خصّت كل واحد منهم بقصيدة، جعلتها صرخة في وجه من وقف بينها وبينهم.

تقول الشاعرة معبرة بإيحاء عن حالات من الافتراق وعن الحب الذي يعوض عن كثير من حالات البعد والفقد "اراك في منحدرات الغياب/ عند المخادع المقفرة/ في طوق الحمامة/ وهديل الرسائل/ اراك/ في وجه قديم امام عاشقين يسترقان الحب/ على قناديل الليل/ حين اصل شفير الامنيات/ وألقي نفسي من العمر الثلاثين/ ويكتب لي حب جديد." في قصيدة "حديث الى رام الله" حزن وافتقاد وحنين الى ما يشبه فردوسا مفقودا ونفس تنوء بأثقال الحياة وكل ذلك في صور موحية تحمل الى النفس غبش امسيات يغلفها الحزن. تقول "سآتيك غدا/ في ظهري انحناءة حزينة/ في صوتي قشعريرة الموال/ انكسار الشمس أمام الظل/ احمل لك قصيدتي/ قافيتها سنوات النسوة المقهورة /بحرها العجز والبال الطويل/ لا فرق بين الوزن والقافية/ كلاهما يستند على الوجع.. "سآتيك غدا/ انفض عني احتضاري فيك/ نعاس الضجر/ عادتي بوشوشة المساء/ القمر ورغيف النساء/ نجمتي وجمرة القلب /تطفيء وجع الجليد/ كلمتني الغربة عنك."
