الكتاب من تحقيق أسعد الشدودي. يقول الدكتور هلال فارحي مؤلف هذا الكتاب، مبيناً غايته من تأليفه بأنه ولما كان المدارس في الشرق عموماً خالية من كتاب يشمل مبادئ تعاليم الديانة الإسرائيلية، وقواعد إيمانها باللغة العربية، فقد وضع كتابه المختصر هذا خصيصاً لهذ الغرض أسوة بغيره، وسمّاه "أساس الدين" لكي يكون محوراً للمعلمين في تعليمهم آداب الديانة الإسرائيلية مع خبرتهم الطويلة وممارستهم الشخصية. وليكون أساساً متيناً لشباب وشابات اليهود في حداثتهم وزمن نشأتهم وتهذيبهم حتى يعرفوا مبادئ الدين وعقائد الإيمان حق المعرفة. وبعيداً عن كلام المؤلف وغايته يمكن القول بأن هذا الكتاب الذي جاء ضمن سلسلة "اليهودية بأقلام يهودية" هو يشمل تعاليم الديانة اليهودية وقواعد إيمانها، ويعتبر مرجعاً للباحثين في الديانة اليهودية لبيان المعتقد والأساس لهذه الديانة من خلال رؤية أحد معتنقيها. وقد تلى هذا الكتاب "أصداء التوراة" للحبر ولش، وهذه أهم العناوين التي وردت في الكتابين على التوالي: في مبادئ الديانة الإسرائيلية: الفصل الأول في الكتاب الأول وهو الكتاب المقدس (القسم الأول التوراة، القسم الثاني أسفار الانبياء، القسم الثالث الصحف (الكتب))، الفصل الثاني في الكتاب الثاني وهو التلمود، الفصل الثالث الدين.
