هذه تراجم موجزة لاثنين وعشرين زعيماً دينياً، اختلفت أزمانهم وبلادهم وتنوعت طرق الدعوات التي نادوا بها. ولكن يجمعهم هدف واحد ومقصد واحد: أراد كل منهم أن يقدم للإنسانية صنيعاً، وعناه أن يصلح في حياة الناس اعوجاجاً، وكل واحد منهم بذل جهداً كبيراً في سبيل دعوته، وكانت أفكارهم غريبة على الناس، وقام في سبيل كل واحد منهم عقبات ولقى من قومه عداوات، وعدد كبير منهم -كما ترى- لقى مصرعه أو قدم حياته طائعاً في سبيل دعوته. منهم من اغتيل، ومنهم من حكم عليه بالإحراق أو القتل، ولم يعدم أي واحد منهم أنصاراً، ولم تمت أفكارهم ومبادئهم التي دعوا إليها، وكثيرون مجدت أفكارهم بعد موتهم، وخلع عليهم أتباعهم من صفات القداسة، ونسبوا إليهم من الخوارق والمعجزات ما لم يدعوه ولم يخطر لهم ببال.
