يعد هذا الكتاب أول دراسة علمية عن واحة سيوة وموسيقاها حصلت بها مؤلفتها- بريجيت شيفر- على درجة الدكتوراه من جامعة برلين ونشر بالألمانية سنة 1936 وقد قام بتعريبها المؤلف الموسيقي جمال عبد الرحيم بترجمة دقيقة موضحة للمصطلحات الألمانية بما يقربها للدارس العربي، والكتاب يقدم دراسة تفصيلية وتحليلة لموسيقى سيوة تشمل الآلات الموسيقية وتوضح الآلات الموسيقية بأنواعها والممارسة الغنائية وألحان الأغاني وصيغها الموسيقية والإيقاع كما تتناول سلالم الموسيقى السيوية وكان الموسيقى داخل الإطار الإجتماعي والثقافي للحياة في سيوة، ويتميز الكتاب أيضاً بتقرير أثنولوجي دقيق مع تحليل للزخارف الموجودة في الثقافة المادية فير واحة سيوة، مع مجموعة من النوتات الموسيقية التي دونتها المؤلفة للأغاني التي جمعتها وسجلتها ميدانيا في سيوة بالإضافة إلى مجموعة من الصور الفوتوغرافية التي تشمل أشكال الملابس والعمارة والرموز الزخرفية الشائعة في سيوة. ويستهل الكتاب بمقدمة شارحة للدكتورة سمحة الخولي لمنهج الدراسة وأساليب التدوين والبحث الموسيقي المستخدم في هذا الكتاب.
