الكتاب طبعة أولى. يعتبر الإمام الشوكاني من كبار العلماء الداعين إلى التمسك بالكتاب والسنة ونبذ التعصب لأقوال الرجال المخالفة لها. أما عقيدته فعقيدة السلف وهي تدعو إلى وجوب حمل صفات الله تعالى الواردة في القرآن الكريم والسنة النبوية الصحيحة على ظاهرها من غير تأويل ولا تحريف، وبالرجوع إلى تآليفه نجد أنه قد عني بالتأليف في شتى الفنون؛ وهدفه وضع مراجع دينية يستفيد منها طلاب المعرفة في حياتهم؛ ومن هذه التآليف كان هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا (الدرر البهية) وهو متن فقهي نفيس، جرى فيه على طريقة فقهاء الحديث، وقد جمع فيه أبواب الفقه بأوجز عبارة وارفع مهارة، حتى أخرجه بهذه الحُلة، قاصداً به نفع طلاب القفه المبتدئين. ولما كان فهم مضمون الكتاب صعباً على الطلاب المبتدئين لما يحتويه من غريب الألفاظ عني "سعد الدين بن محمد الكبي" بتدوين تعليق لطيف على نصّ مادة الكتاب، مع شرح لغريب الألفاظ التي حواها توضيحاً لبعض المسائل وذلك لتقريبها من أفهام أهل عصرنا هذا، بالإضافة إلى بعض الأدلة، من باب ربط الطالب بالدليل.
