اللغة هوية الأمة، وأعظم مقومات وجودها، ووطنها الروحي، والأمم الحية تحافظ على لغاتها حفاظها على أوطانها، والعلاقة بين مكانة الأمة ومكانة لغتها وثيقة جداً، فاللغة هي الأمة. إن السعي لإتقان العربية لا يعني أبداً التخلي عن تعلم اللغات الأجنبية الحية، بل من المهم جداً أن يتقن العالم العربي لغة أجنبية واحدة على الأقل، هذا ما يفعله علماء البلاد المتقدمة، والأحرى أن يفعله علماؤنا. وليس مقبولاً أن يسعى العربي لإتقان لغة أجنبية، فيبذل في سبيل ذلك كل جهد ممكن، وأن يهمل في الوقت نفسه لغته العربية! ليس مقبولاً أن يأخذ بالحزم في تعلم الإنكليزية ـ مثلاً ـ وبالتضييع في تعلم اللغة العربية. ترى أحدهم إذا خالف قاعدة وأخطأ التعبير بالإنكليزية، ونبه على ذلك، أبدى أسفه وعبَّر عن احترامه وخضوعه للقاعدة، أما إذا نبه على خطأ بالعربية وقع فيه فهو ـ في الأغلب ـ لا يبدي أسفه! وقد يقول: أنا لا أحسن العربية، وقد يستدل بالقاعدة الباطلة (خطأ شائع خير من صواب ضائع). إن تقاعس الكثيرين عن استدراك ما ينقصهم من معلومات في العربية ـ إضافة إلى عقدة الشعور بالدونية إزاء الغرب، التي تعانيها نسبة غير ضئيلة من العرب ـ هو سبب الظاهرة الخطيرة الواسعة الانتشار: التسييب اللغوي، بل أكاد أقول: (الإباحية اللغوية!)، وهذا ما يرمي إليه أعداء العروبة.
