يبحث هذا الكتاب في تاريخ التكون الاجتماعي– الاقتصادي– السياسي للجزيرة السورية، بوصفها جزءاً من إقليم الجزيرة الفراتية التاريخي، قبل إعادة العمران فيها بعد دمارها نتيجة الحملات التتارية، وبعد إعادته في مرحلة التنظيمات العثمانية وصولاً إلى أقرب اللحظات المعاصرة القابلة للتأريخ في قرننا، بما في ذلك انطلاق الثورة الزراعية الحديثة في سورية. ويحلل بالتفصيل الأصول الأنثربولوجية لسكان الجزيرة، وتطورهم. ويتوقف بشكل مفصل عند نشوء المجتمعات المحلية الكردية والسريانية في الجزيرة، وعلاقتها بالمسألتين الكردية والسريانية التركيتين، ويتوق من خلالها أيضاً عند تاريخ العلاقات التركية – السورية المتداخلة، وكيفية جريانه في تاريخ الجزيرة الحديث، ومحاولة الحركة الصهيونية الاستيطان المبكر فيها، والنظر إليها باعتبارها مكاناً نموذجياً لتوطين اللاجئين الفلسطينيين، وصولاً إلى مناقشة مشاريع التعريب الأحدث، ونشوء مشكلة "أجانب تركيا" في سورية، وخلفيات نشوئها وتفاصيل تكونها.
