في دراسته هذه، يسعى الدكتور عبد الرحيم الإدريسي إلى سبر أغوار نمط من الصور الروائية أسماها "الصور الشاعرية". وحيث أن التصوير الروائي يرتبط بنمط مخصوص من الصور؛ فقد غدا من البديهي إخضاع مختلف أنماطه للمعالجة النقدية بما فيه من صور واقعية، أو رومانسية، أو شاعرية، أو سريالية، أو تأملية. وفي هذا السياق النقدي الواعي اختار المؤلف "الشاعرية" من حيث هي سمة تكوينية في بعض الروايات التعربية خاصة تلك التي تهيمن عليها النفس الصوفية، ولأنه يوجد الكثير من الفروق الجمالية والبلاغية ما بين "الشعر" و "الشاعرية" انطلق المؤلف في هذا الكتاب من افتراض منهجي يرى "أن تخصيص مصطلح الصورة الشاعرية وجملة إمكاناتها الأسلوبية بالسياقات الجمالية والنوعية للجنس الأدبي يتيح إمكانية استشراف قيم جمالية لا يسمح بها تناول نقدي ذو منظور مطلق أو خاضع لسياق جنس أدبي مغاير (...)". وانطلاقاً من اختيار المؤلف الشاعرية الروائية معياراً أساساً في مهمة قراءته لمتن الرواية العربية وفي حقبة زمنية دقيقة تمتد من العقد السابع من القرن العشرين إلى بداية الألفية الثالثة أتت فصول هذا الكتاب وأبوابه، على استقلال كل واحد منها بموضوع مخصوص، فكان الباب الأول للمعالجة النظرية، واختص بتوضيح مفهوم "الشاعرية الرواية"، بينما انطلق الباب الثاني إلى البحث عن بعض معايير التصوير الشاعري وسماته النوعية، وتكون الباب الثالث من اختبار مظاهر اصطفاء مكونات الجنس الروائي السياقية وسماته الجمالية لمقومات إنجاز الشاعرية الصوفية. أما الباب الرابع والأخير فكان تحليلاً لوظائف "التساند الجمالي" بين شاعرية المكون الصوفي وسياقه الروائي المخصوص. وأخيراً (خاتمة ونتائج الدراسة).
