ليس ما يكتبه المنتصرون هو التاريخ. فهؤلاء يستخدمون قوّة انتصارهم ليكتبوا ما يريدون له أن يكون التاريخ. رمزي بارود انتبه إلى هذه الحقيقة الغائمة، فقام يتحدّى النسخة الشائعة في الغرب عن تاريخ غزّة وفلسطين التي كتبها الغُزاة المحتلّون، وقدّم نسخة أخرى ترك مهمة كتابتها للضحايا... فجاءت واقعية، حقيقية ومغمّسة بالكارثة والبطولة. لم يخترع الكاتب ولم يجتهد، بل هو لم يبحث بعيداً، فأحداث التاريخ الذي كتبه ذلك الفلسطيني كانت... من شؤونه العائلية. أساساً هو لم يكتب كتابه لنا، للعرب، بل كتبه لهم، للغربيين، لأولئك الذين عاش طويلاً بينهم (مشرّداً من وطنه). كتبه لأهل الإنكليزية، وبلغتهم، كتبه لتلك البيئة الحاضنة التي «أرضعت» الوحش الصهيوني ثم ضاقت به، فمنحته «حق» اغتصاب فلسطين، وسكتت على جرائمه بحق الفلسطينيين ثم راحت تسمّيها بطولات وحضارة. لم يكن الكاتب حالماً ولا ساذجاً بل هو أدرك أنّ إسرائيل، بأسلحتها الفتّاكة، قادرة على تغيير المجال الطبيعي لغزّة ولفلسطين، لكنه ظلّ مؤمناً مطمئنّاً إلى أنّ إرادة الغزّيين والفلسطينيين هي ما يشكّل تاريخ فلسطين ومجالها الطبيعي. لذلك حافظ على يقين ثابت من أنّ نضال أبيه لن يذهب هدراً.
