كتاب قصصي يروي حكايات عن الأنبياء وكبار العلماء الذين كان كسبهم من عمل أيديهم. الكتاب - بعد التقديم الذي يبين مكانة العمل في الإسلام ودوره، ونظرة التشريع إليه، وبعد المقدمة – يقع في بابين؛ الأول تناول المؤلف فيه ((ملاحظات عن العمل والصناعة والحرفة)) وذكر فيه ملاحظات ستاً، يقوم عليها فهم المسلم لمعنى الكسب والحرفة، ختمها بآيات وأحاديث ترسم نظرية العمل وكسب الرزق في الإسلام. وتخيّر في الباب الثاني قصصاً في سِيَر أعلام من الأنبياء والصحابة والتابعين وتابعي التابعين وكبار العلماء المسلمين على مدار التاريخ، عرفوا في اشتغالهم بحرف ليسدوا بها حاجة معيشتهم؛ فذكر حرفة كل من إدريس عليه السلام في الخياطة، وداود عليه السلام في صناعة الدروع، ولقمان الحكيم في النجارة، وزينب بنت جحش رضي الله عنها في الدباغة والغزل، وسلمان الفارسي رضي الله عنه في صناعة السلال، والحارث بن كَلَدة في الطب، وسعيد بن المسيب في التجارة، ومالك بن دينار في نسخ المصاحف، وإبراهيم بن الأدهم الزاهد الذي يعمل بكدّ يده أيَّ عمل حلال، والليث بن سعد في التجارة، ويحيى بن هبيرة في الوزارة، والسلطان محمد أورنك في الخط، وعبد الله القفّال في صناعة الأقفال الدقيقة، ومحمد بن علي المروزي في القضاء والخياطة معاً. فصّل المؤلف في جانب من سير هؤلاء الأعلام، بالإضافة إلى إشارته لإبداعاتهم في أعمالهم وإتقانهم لها.
