شاعر مصري، ولد بمدينة دمياط في 12 نوفمبر 1960م التحق بقسم الصحافة بكلية الآداب بسوهاج – جامعة أسيوط، وتخرج فيها في مايو 1983.
انضم إلى جريدة الأهرام في 1 من يناير 1985م ليعمل في قسم الأخبار، وفي 18 من فبراير 1995 صدرت مجلة "نصف الدنيا" الأسبوعية ليتولى مهام سكرتير تحرير المجلة، ثم نائباً لرئيس التحرير في مايو 2000.

شاعر يعشق الحرائق ويحرق المراحل.
ينهل دون ارتواء من بئر التراث الروحي , ويعزف في الآن نفسة نبرات الإيقاع العصري ,فلا تدري إذ تنهمر عليك إشاراته هل أنت في حضرة شيخ من دراويش العشق الإلهي , أم شاعر من مردة الفن الحديث ؟ .. لكن موجة الشعر لا تلبث أن تسكن جوارحك , وتغمرك بدهشة الإبداع المنعش الرطيب.
يطمح أحمد الشهاوي إلى الحكمة , دون أن يطمئن إلى إدراكها , ويتوق إلى امتلاك اللغة ويراها عصيةً عليه , وهو بأنه آخر عنقود الشعراء الذين مسهم وهج النبوة الفنية , وهو مازال يكتوي بتجربة اللسان والنار الشهيرة في البادية.
