يجوب شاعرنا "عبد الوهاب البياتي" المسافات متوحداً حاملاً جحيم عشقه، ينقل الخطو وئيداً على دقات قلبه وتمتمات شفتيه، يقطع الشعاب والوهاد والدهور والأزمان، يجتاز بوابات العالم السبع، ويدخل مدن العالم جميعها، له في كل واحدة عشق ومحراب. فهو جلجامش حيناً، يفتش عن السر الأعظم سر الحياة ولغز الموت ومعنى الخلود، وتستنير بها الأبصار والبصائر، ولكنه دائماً هو البياتي نفسه، حامل لواء الفقراء، ورافع راية حرية الإنسان وقدسية الشعر، في زمن ذوت فيه الحرية وذبل الشعر ووئد الإنسان. يسير ولا يتوقف عن السير: بكفه اليمنى عبق التاريخ، وفي يسراه ألق المستقبل، مصباحه بغداد، وعشقه بغداد، يحملها وتحمله، وتضيء له كل السبل والطرقات إذا ما ادلهم ليل أو أضاء صباح. يسير ولا يتوقف عن السير يدخل متاهة غارثيا مركيز على جناح ثور آشورى مجنح لتتضح الرؤية وتصبح المتاهة هي كل الدلالة والصحو، ويدخل غابة رفائيل البرتي الضائعة، فردوسه المفقود يحمل قيثارة أندلسية خضبت بالحناء وعليها نقش مكتوب "لا غالب إلا الحب" يدخل دواوين بني عثمان السلاطين فيلتقي الأمير النائم ناظم حكمت فيشاطره فرحه الطفولي وبرودة الزنزانة، ثم يمد يده الرهيفة ليصافح بها موت وعبقرية بدر شاكر السياب وينثر رماد جثته في نهر دجلة، وينادي خليل حاوي ليحطما آلهة الطين، ويبنيا من أرز لبنان مملكة الله، وفي بحثه عن حوروس يلتقي بالشاعر صلاح عبد الصبور في الكرنك يخط قصائده على ورق البردي في أصقاع النور. ويحمل البياتي كل واحد منهم في قلبه، ويسير، على دقات قلبه ولا يتوقف عن السير. هذا الكتاب (حرائق الشعراء) ليس كتاب ذكريات أو مذكرات، إنه التقاء الشعراء، وحديثهم، وحديث الشعراء يكون على غير ما نعرف من كلمات اللغة، يتحدثون أحياناً بلا كلام، وكأنهم في مجمع الأولمب، يرسلون الأعاصير والبروق لتجرف ما على هذي الأرض من زيف وعجز، وها هو البياتي، واحداً منهم يحدثنا اليوم بحديثهم.
