ولد أوغست مونت في مونتبيلييه Montpellier عام 1798 وتوفي في باريس عام 1857 وهو فيلسوف مصلح اجتماعي برهن عن وحدة في أفكاره منذ البداية حتى النهاية، وتدور مؤلفاته حول محور واحد هو الإنسانية فهو يقول بخضوع الإنسانية لمفهوم التاريخ فهي تحكمها قواعد اجتماعية واحدة وترنو إلى نظام اجتماعي مشترك. كان لأفكار كونت تأثيرها الفعال في النصف الثاني من القرن التاسع عشر وقد مهدت مع انتقادية كانت سبيل التفكير العلومي أمام الفلسفة الفرنسية وولدت في السنوات 1880 تيار الوراثة التي أثارت روحية برغشون والفلسفة الوجودية كما يعد كونت أبو علم الاجتماع التطبيقي الذي أصبح دور كهايم من كبار رواده. عن هذه الشخصية الفذة يتحدث هذا الكتاب من سلسلة "أعلام الفكر العالمي" فيطرق لـ سيرته وأفكاره في السياسة والاقتصاد ونظرياته في علم الاجتماع باعتباره وبحسب رأيه أنه المؤسس الحقيقي لعلم الاجتماع وذلك ليس لأنه أوجد هذا العلم من العدم بل لأنه دفع به من حالة اللاهوت إلى الوضعية.
