سندباد الجديد" سلسلة تحتفي بأدب الرحلة وتتطلع، أسلفنا في سلسلة "ارتياد الآفاق"، إلى بعث واحد من أعرق ألوان الكتابة في ثقافتنا العربية، وذلك بتقديم نماذج معاصرة من أدب الرحلة العربي، وهي سلسلة موازية للسلسلة التراثية "مائة رحلة عربية إلى العالم" التي شرعنا في إصدارها بدءاً من العام 2001، في إطار مشروع "ارتياد الآفاق". تهدف هذه السلسلة إلى احتضان النصوص الحديثة في أدب الرحلة العربي، وكذلك نصوص الكتاب العرب عن المكان، والنصوص الأدبية المستلهمة من الأسفار ومدونات التراث الجغرافي العربي والإسلامي في مسعى قصده تشجيع المؤلفين على مقاربة هذا اللون من الأدب القائم على الخبرات الشخصية في العلاقة مع المكان، والحركة عبره، والإطلال على الطبيعة والناس والعمران وما تذخر به الحياة الحديثة في الجغرافيات المختلفة من اختلاف في أحوال الإنسان، معاشه ونشاطه الاجتماعي والاقتصادي والثقافي، وميوله وتقاليده وحياته الروحية. معروف أن يوميات المسافرين ومدوناتهم الشخصية تشكل في الثقافات الأخرى مكتبة قائمة في ذاتها وتعتبر كتب أدب الرحلة من أمتع المؤلفات وأكثرها رواجاً على اختلاف قيمتها الأدبية، وتنوع الموضوعات التي طرقها كتابها. تأتي هذه الرحلة إلى إيطاليا والتي هي عبارة عن يوميات أدبية عن زيارة قاص بها الكاتب الأردني الراحل سنة 1960 مدفوعاً بالرغبة في معرفة أدب آخر غير الأدبين الإنجليزي والفرنسي، وكانت زيارة إيطاليا بالنسبة إليه من الأحلام الجميلة التي طالما راودن خياله، فصور البندقية وروما، وفلورنسا، والريفييرا، وبحيرة كومو، ظلت تراوده طيوفاً من السحر، وخيالات من الجنة الموعودة. لذلك كانت غبطة الكاتب عظيمة عندما سنحت له الفرصة ليقوم برحلة إلى موطن الخيال الجميل ومرابع الأحلام الساحرة. نص أدبي بارع، ووثيقة مهمة عن اللقاء العربي الأوروبي من خلال كاتب وتجربته.
