وضع الكتاب جاكوب فون أويكسيكول وهيربرت جيرارد وترجمه عن الإنجليزية رجب سعد السيد. في مقدمة الطبعة العربية قال جاكوب فون أويكسكول رئيس مبادرة مجلس مستقبل العالم أن المجلس التأسيسي للمجلس، اجتمع بعد صدور الكتاب وأن بلدية مدينة هامبورج الألمانية وفرت التمويل الذي "سيتيح للمجلس إن اكتملت صورته أن تنطلق فعالياته ويبدأ أعماله بالعام 2007". يهدف المجلس إلى إنقاذ هذا العالم. ففي الحديث عن المجلس ورد أنه "سيتكون من أفراد بارزين ينتقون من كل أنحاء العالم ليكون بينهم الشيوخ والحكماء والشخصيات البارزة في مختلف المجالات .. والرواد قادة الشباب .. تجمعهم لقاءات دورية منتظمة يهتمون بسد ثغرات خطط العمل العالمي حماية لحقوق الأبناء والأجيال القادمة.
عن الشأن الإجتماعي يورد الكتاب معلومات منها "يمتلك أغنى 20 في المئة من البشر 85 في المئة من موارد العالم. يعيش بليونان من الناس في حالة فقر مدقع، ويعيش 3,1 بليون إنسان عند حد الفقر بينما يموت 25000 إنسان جوعاً في اليوم الواحد.
يطرح هذا الكتاب أسئلة مهمة ومنها: هل نراعي قداسة الحياة، الحياة وحرمتها أم ننحاز للمتاجرة في متطلباتها؟ .. قيم المواطنة أهم أم قيم المستهلك؟ صحة الفقراء أم المسائل الإقتصادية؟ حقوق المواطنين أم الإحتكارات العالمية ... الخ.
