الحبيب السالمي روائي تونسي من مواليد قرية العلا في تونس عام 1951.
أصدر ثماني روايات ومجموعتين قصصيتين وتُرجم عدد من قصصه إلى الإنكليزية والنرويجية والعبرية والفرنسية كما ترجمت رواياته إلى الإنجليزية والفرنسية والألمانية والإيطالية.
نُشرت روايته ألاولى "جبل العنز" بالفرنسية عام 1999 ونشرت روايته "عشّاق بيه" بالفرنسية عام 2003.
من بين رواياته الأخرى "صورة بدوي ميت" (1990)، "متاهات الرمل" (1994)، "حفر دافئة" (1999)٬ "أسرار عبد الله" (2004) و"روائح ماري كلير" (2009) التي وصلت إلى القائمة القصيرة للجائزة العالمية للرواية العربية عام 2009 وصدرت بالإنجليزية عن دار آرابية هذه السنة.
الحبيب السالمي مقيم في باريس منذ سنة 1985.

قرأت "جبل العنز" بعد أن أعطيتنيها بثلاثة أيام أو أربعة. واستمتعت بها، بجهامتها، وغرابتها، وخروجها عن المألوف، وقد أعجبني توفيقك في الممازجة (الموحية باستمرار) بين تفاصيل القرية الواقعية وبين ما يتحقق من عواطف وأحاسيس تتخطى هذه التفاصيل: فكانت الرواية تبدو وكأنها تسير على خطين متصلين منفصلين، أحدهما ظاهر والآخر باطن. وكانت النهاية هي التقاء الخطين، أو تقاطعهما، حيث يجب أن يلتقيا ويتقاطعا، ويكون لتقل إسماعيل تبرير مراسيمي تتطهر به تجربة الرواية، كما تتطهر به القرية نفسها، في الرواية سواد يكاد لا ينجلي ولو للحظة واحدة، وحتى "الحفلة الكبيرة" تعجزة عن إثارة أي فرح في أحد كأنها جنازة مسبقة لأهل القرية وإسماعيلها، حيث تبرز فخذا الراقصة الصفراء الشعر أشبه "بفخذي كلبة هزيلة..." رهيب ومأتمي ومتميز. جبرا إبراهيم جبرا
