هشام جاب الله مطر ، هو روائي وشاعر ليبي من مواليد نيويورك 1970 مقيم في لندن يكتب باللغة الإنجليزية، بعد أن بدأ القذافي في إجراءاته الاشتراكية من تأميمات وغيرها.
انضم أبوه إلى المعارضة ثم اعتقل 1994.
في العشرينات من عمره أنهى دراسة الهندسة المعمارية في معهد غولد سميث، وافتتح مكتباً للتصميمات المعمارية، لكن ميله إلى الأدب تغلب على مهنته فانصرف إلى كتابة الشعر والرواية، وعمل في غضون ذلك ممثلاً مسرحياً وعامل بناء ومجلد كتب.
بعد عدة محاولات أدبية تمكن هشام من أن ينهي رواية "في بلد الرجال" والتي رصد فيها الحياة الليبية في نهاية السبعينات وخاصة القمع السياسي والاجتماعي على لسان صبي صغير يعيش مع أمه السكيرة.
ترجمت الرواية التي كتبت باللغة الإنجليزية إلى عدة لغات ونالت حظا من الاهتمام .عمل هشام مطر قبل نشر دار بنغوين لروايته، في مجالات مختلفة منها العزف على الجيتار والعمارة وتجليد الدفاتر والنحت.
وحتى قبل صدور الرواية تم شراؤها من أبرز دور النشر العالمية في فرنسا وهولندا وإيطاليا والولايات المتحدة والسويد وغيرها، حيث بدأت تظهر بـ 18 لغة، من بينها العربية.
رشحت روايته "في بلد الرجال" لجائزة «بوكر مان» للأدب الإنجليزي.
نشر قصائده في مجلة (ساوندز) وأصدر أولى رواياته بعنوان «في بلد الرجال» ويعكف حالياً على انجاز روايته الثانية.
ويشارك بمقالات وعروض للكتب بصورة منتظمة في عدد من الصحف العربية من بينها صحيفة «الشرق الأوسط».
وفي عام 2002 أدرج ديوان له في التنافس النهائي على جائزة إيست انجيلا لأفضل المواهب الجديدة.
Book Description
Nuri is a young boy when his mother dies. It seems that nothing will fill the emptiness that her strange death leaves behind in the Cairo apartment he shares with his father. Until they meet Mona, sitting in her yellow swimsuit by the pool of the Magda Marina hotel. As soon as Nuri sees her, the rest of the world vanishes. But it is Nuri’s father with whom Mona falls in love and whom she eventually marries. And their happiness consumes Nuri to the point where he wishes his father would disappear. Nuri will, however, soon regret what he wished for. His father, long a dissident in exile from his homeland, is taken under mysterious circumstances. And, as the world that Nuri and his stepmother share is shattered by events beyond their control, they begin to realize how little they knew about the man they both loved. Anatomy of a Disappearance is written with all the emotional precision and intimacy that have won Hisham Matar tremendous international recognition. In a voice that is delicately wrought and beautifully tender, he asks: When a loved one disappears, how does their absence shape the lives of those who are left?
