ما اجتمع لرجل من الفضل والعمل بعد رسول صلى الله عليه وسلك وسائر الأنبياء كما اجتمع لسيدنا الإمام على بن أبي طالب، فهو السابق في الإسلام، وهو الأخ والصهر وهو الذي خصه الرسول بمنزله خاصة لم يخص أحداً غيره بها. ولعل خير ما ينبئ عن هذه المكانة كثرة الأحاديث المروية في الإمام علي والتي تذكر فضائله عليه السلام ولما كانت المعجزات والخوارق دليل على صدق الأنبياء والأولياء. فإن هذا الكتاب يذكر طرفاً من معاجز الإمام علي التي رواها أصحابه من هذه المعاجز كتابة اسمه على ساق العرش والحجب والشمس والقمر، ومخاطبة ذي الفقار له وإنطاق الناقة بأنه أمير المؤمنين، والإبريق الذي أ،زل عليه من السماء وفيه الماء، والسطل الذي نزل به جبرائيل وفيه الماء ومع ميكائيل منديل، وإنطاق حوت يونس بولايته وولاية أهل البيت. وغيرها من المعاجز التي اختص بها دون سائر أصحاب رسول الله.
