دائماً ما توقع "كاتي" نفسها في مشاكل نتيجة فضولها واندفاعها وياليتها مشاكل عادية وإنما مشاكل لا تخطر على الباب وكلها محفوفة بالأخطار. تبدأ الرواية بالمأزق الذي وضعت نفسها فيه نتيجة عدم اقتناعها بمشهد تليفزيوني فيه البطلة ينحشر أصبح قدمها الكبير في حلقة الصنبور وهي في البانيو. فتحاول أن تجرب ذلك فإذا بأصبعها يحدث له ما حدث لبطلة المسلسل التليفزيوني حاولت جاهدة أن تخلع أصبعها دون جدوى. وفي النهاية تصرخ طالبة النجدة ويأتي جارها وابنه لإنقاذها من هذا الموقف المخجل الذي يفتح أمام "كاتي" نافذة الحب لهذا الجار الذي يهتم بالبحث عن فتاة تشاركه حياته.
