الوخز بالإبر نوع من التطبيب الشعبي الذي بدأه قدماء الصين وهو يوازي الطب الفرعوني وطب الأعشاب وطب الكي. والوخز بالإبر هو وهم في حالات كثيرة وحقيقة في حالات أخرى، فهو طب شعبي يساعد العلاج ولكنه لا يعالج، وهو يكون في بعض الأحيان إلى تدهور حالة المريض، وذلك بإزالته للأعراض المنبئة بمرض يستحيل البرء منه بواسطة الوخز بالإبر.
ولذلك نظم الدكتور فتحي سيّد نصر ومن موقعه كطبيب، هذا الكتاب الذي يسرد فيه عملية الوخز ببعض تفاصيلها وطرقها ومزاياها مع الإشارة إلى مساوئ تطبيقها ليكون القارئ على بينة من الوهم في هذا التطبيب ومن حقيقته، أي متى يكون الوخز بالإبر نافعاً ومتى يكون ضاراً.
