يحاول كتاب “شعر بني سلول” أن يلملم ديوانا شعريا لقبيلة عربية لم يقيض الله لها في قديم أو حديث من يجمع شعر شعرائها، “الذين تناثرت أشعارهم موضعا، وتباعدت مصدرا، فقصيدة هنا، وأخرى هناك، ومقطوعة في موضع، وبيت أو أبيات في آخر، لا يجمعها اتجاه، ولا يؤلف بينها فكر أو فن”. ومن هنا جاء هذا الكتاب الذي جمع أشعاره ودرسها وحققها الدكتور وليد محمد السراقبي، فقدم إضمامة طيبة من أشعار هذه القبيلة، ووضع شعرها منسقا موثقا، ومشروحا مفسرا، “ليكون عونا للباحثين، ودوحة يتفيأ ظلالها الدارسون، ومتعة لمن هم لتراث هذه الأمة عاشقون”. ولا يدعي السراقبي الكمال لهذا العمل ولكن “حسبه أنه عمل يحدوه الإخلاص لتراث هذا الأمة”، و”إن أمة لا تنظر إلى تراثها بعين الاعتزاز، وتشمخ بما فيه من ومضات وإضاءات لهي أمة توصف بالعقوق، ويحكم عليها بالإخفاق، وتقفز في الهواء”. لقد بذل المحقق جهدا كبيرا ليجمع ديوان بني سلول من بين ما تناثر في بطون المصادر العربية من أخبار شعرائها وشعرهم ليضعه بين أيدي الدارسين، متتبعا خطة عمل تقوم على بعض الأسس منها، أنه جعل في المتن أقدم الروايات تاريخيا، وأقربها إلى الصحة، ثم أشار في الهامش إلى اختلاف الروايات، وقدم لكل قطعة بما يسفر عن مناسبتها ما أمكنه ذلك، وفسر المفردات المستغلقة تفسيرا لا تكثُّر فيه ولا تزيد، وجعل الشعر الثابت النسبة في قسم خاص، وأتبعه بقسم يضم الأشعار المختلف نسبتها، وذيَّل الكتاب بمجموعة من الفهارس الضروية، بلغت ثلاثة عشر فهرسا، عدا ثبت المصادر والمراجع، والفهرس العام للكتاب الذي وقع في 354 صفحة، وصدر عن مركز البابطين لتحقيق المخطوطات الشعرية التابع لمؤسسة جائزة عبدالعزيز سعود البابطين للإبداع الشعري بالكويت. ويوضح د. وليد محمد السراقبي أن قبيلة “سلول” تعود إلى جدها الأعلى مضر بن نزار، وأن “سلول” امرأة نسب إليها أبناؤها، وهي سلول بنت ذهل بن شيبان بن ثعلبة بن عُكاية بن صعب بن علي بن بكر بن وائل، وأمها الوِرثة بنت هنية بن ثعلبة من بني يشكر.
