يتضمن هذا الديوان قصائد متنوعة مشاعر السوداني "محمد المجذوب" الذي استمد إحساسه العميق من الشعر السوداني الذي يعتبره مأخوذ من أعماق هذا البلد فابتعد عن المقلدين التابعين الذين ذهبوا إلى الغرب ورأى بعضهم من الآداب والفنون شيئاً بالغ العظمة فألغوا ما نشأوا عليه من آداب مثلهم في هذا مثل الذين قعدوا في التراث العربي لا يتحركون، قدسوه ولم يستطيع الخروج عليه فكرروه لهذا كتب المؤلف شعره من دون أن يراعي كلا الفريقين معتمداً في ديوانه القافية، إلا قصيدة واحدة منثورة وأخرى لا تلتزم القافية؛ وقد كتب هذا الشعر في الفترة 1941 إلى 1972. نقتطف مقطعاً من قصيدة "خِصَامٌ"... "إلى صاحبٍ لم يرع ودا لصاحبِ... عتابَ صديقٍ كيفما شئْتَ عاتبِ... لقيتُك لم أجهلْكَ فاجهلْ مودتي... أخا الغدرِ واتركني وحيدَ المآربِ... يُضاحكني لؤْمٌ خفيٌ وسَمَّنِي... شرابُكَ من حِقْدٍ على كُلِّ شارِب... وما لمتُ غيري، لا تلمني، فإنني... توهمتُ أُنْساً في جُحُور العقارِب... يَشِلْنَ بأذيالٍ حسانٍ وأذرُعٍ... حَسَرْنَ وزهُوٍ ضاحكٍ في الترائِب... ولي عُزلةٌ ألقى بها الأمنَ خالياً... وإن أخذت عينيَّ نارُ الحُ
