إن المعارف الحقة والعلوم كلها تكمن في كتاب الله العزيز وأحاديث الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم التي حفظها ممن حفظها أهل البيت الذين جعلهم الله تعالى خزاناً لعلم نبيه وتراجمة لوحيه. وما أحوج إنسان اليوم إلى التعرف على هذا المعين الصافي الثري، الذي لا ينضب، وما أحوج إنسان اليوم، كما إنسان كل زمان، إلى التعرف على الحكمة التي جاء الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم ليعلمها للناس. من هذا المنطلق يأتي هذا الكتاب المشتمل على أبواب هامة في الموضوعات المتفاوتة، مرتباً على حروف المعجم، حاوياً لأنواع العلوم والحكم يغني عن سائر كتب الحديث، مصدراً كل باب منه بالآيات البينات، فكان في غاية الاختصار والإيجاز، وكان قطب رحى المؤلف، كتاب "بحار الأنوار" للعلامة محمد باقر المجلسي، وهو كتاب من أشرف كتب الشيعة قدراً وأعظمها شرفاً وأوسعها كمّاً وكيفاً، ولا يعني ذلك أن المؤلف لم يستفد من سائر كتب المحدّثين، حيث تمّ له نقل الروايات المذكورة من الكتب المتعددة، وفائدة ذلك أن يعلم أهل البحث والتحقيق مواضع ذكر روايات الباب في تلك المصادر فيسهل عليهم مراجعتها. وإلى هذا فإن الكتاب مع صغر حجمه جامع للموضوعات المختلفة، فهو يغني عن مجلدات كثيرة، مع ملاحظة أن مؤلفه قد حاول إغناء الموضوعات التي يريد الباحث الرجوع إليها، بذكر أكثر مما يحتاج إليه فيها، فهو بهذا يوفر على المراجع الكثير من الوقت والجهد. وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن المؤلف قام بذكر مصادر متعددة للحديث الواحد، وذلك بهدف الاطمئنان إلى ذلك الحديث، وإلى اعتباره وإمكان الاعتماد عليه، بالإضافة إلى أن ذلك يعكس أهمية الموضوع الذي يتكفل بيانه، كما هو واضح.
