يتكلم هذا الكتاب عن بعض البحوث المختلفة فى الشره العصبى حيث خصص فى مجال الصحة البدنية والنفسية . حيث يوجد علاقة بين الحالة النفسية للفرد وبين الرغبة الملحة لتناول الطعام أو العزف عنه . ويعرف الشره بأنه : الإفراط والشره فى تناول الطعام يتبعه شعور بالذنب والاكتئاب والغضب جراء هذا العمل فعلى الرغم من وجود بعض المشاعر المصاحبة من فقدان السيطرة والتحكم فى الأكل فإنه لايوجد نقص ملحوظ فى الوزن تحت الحد السوى المناسب للعمر والطول ، ويعرف الشره العصبى بأنه اضطراب فى الأكل يتميز بالتهام الطعام بشراهة ، ومغالاة فى أساليب التحكم فى الوزن والميول غير الطبيعية نحو الاهتمام الزائد بوزن وشكل الجسم . ويبين الكتاب اسباب الشره العصبى من عوامل وراثية – وعوامل بيولوجية – أو من تاريخ مرض نفسى فى العائلة ، كما يعرض الكتاب التنبؤ بالشره العصبى فى ضوء بعض الأعراض العصابية لدى المراهق الأزهرى وهى القلق والخوف المرضى – والوساوس القهرية – والاضطرابات السيكوماتية – والاكتئاب – والهستيريا . كما يبين الشره العصبى وعلاقته ببعض المتغيرات النفسية والعصابية لدى المراهقات الأزهريات حيث تبين أن الإناث أكثر معاناة من الشره العصبى حيث أبانت النتائج أن الاكتئاب والهستيريا يعد من أكثر الأعراض العصابية ارتباطا بالشره العصبى . كما يبين الفصل الثالث العديد من المتغيرات النفسية والعصبية فى أربعة محاور تناولت مفهوم الذات والشره العصبى وعلاقته بصورة الجسم .
