ليس أقدر من المرأة من اختلاس الذكريات من خزائن الأمس، والعيش معها، في تواشج ووئام، وبخاصة إذا كان الأمر يتعلق بمن تحب فتبقى تخلص لهذا الحب حتى في حال الفقد. تلك هي "سارة" المرأة المثال التي أحبت زوجها " يوسف" في حياته وبعد مماته. وترجمت هذا الحب فيضاً من الحب والحنان لأبناؤه، من إمرأة أخرى، رغم أنها حرمت نعمة الإنجاب. وفي الحكاية، بعد زواج سارة بيوسف بثلاث سنوات، أجريا الفحوصات ليعرفا سبب تأخر سارة عن الحمل، وظهرت النتيجة أن سارة لا تعاني من أي مشاكل أو موانع من الحمل وأن المشكلة في يوسف... العقيم.. الذي قال التقرير إن حالته مستحيلة العلاج إلا أن يشاء الله...! ولكن تجري الرياح بما لا يشتهي السفن أحياناً، فيعد زواج يوسف من إمرأة أخرى هي "نوف" وعلاجه يرزق بثلاثة أبناء، أما سارة فأصبحت في سن اليأس... يرفض يوسف التخلي عن سارة بعد زواجه فتقيم مع عائلته الجديدة في نفس المنزل، ويبدأ الصراع الأنثوي بين إمرأة وضرتها أو كما صورها الروائي في إبراز قيم الإخلاص والعطاء في شخصية سارة، وبين شخصية نوف التي لا تتورع أن تأخذ كل شيء، ولا تعطي شيء حتى الحنان لأبناؤها، الذين سوف ينشئون على حب الأم سارة التي بدت في تعاملها مع أبناء زوجها في صورة رائعة، إلا أنه ستواجهها عقبات تكشف عنها الرواية بصور مفاجئة قد لا نحسب لها أي حساب!! (يتيمة الزوج) رواية عن النساء، رحم الدنيا، تقول لنا أن الأم هي التي تربي، أكثر من تلك التي تلد.
