تُرى هل نستطيع في يوم من الأيام أن يكون عندنا عدة نسخ من سعد زغلول وعبد الناصر والسادات وأم كلثوم وعبد الوهاب وعبد الحليم، والشيخ الشعراوي والشيخ الغزالي والشيخ رفعت وطه حسين والعقاد ونجيب محفوظ، وأينشتين وفاروق الباز وأحمد زويل ومجدي يعقوب؟
ربما كان هذا السؤال منطقياً بعد الإعلان عن نبأ استنساخ النعجة "دوللي" من خلية جسدية من ثدي نعجة، والذي أحدث دوياً هائلاً وردود فعل واسعة في العالم كله تتراوح ما بين الاندهاش والانبهار والاستنكار وعدم التصديق.
ولعلنا لا نبالغ إذ قلنا إن هذه التجربة العلمية لا تقل أهمية عن بقية الاكتشافات الهامة التي غيرت من شكل الحياة على كوكب الأرض مثل اكتشاف الميكروبات والكهرباء والمضادات الحيوية والذرَّة وغيرها، فهذه التجربة تفتح الباب على مصرعيه لمناقشة مصير البشرية من خلال مناقشة موضوع استنساخ الأجنة البشرية.
والحقيقة أننا يجب أن نناقش الموضوع بشيء من الهدوء والعقلانية، وأن نضع في اعتبارنا نناقش شيئاً جديداً على عقولنا ربما يكون رد فعلنا التلقائي تجاهه هو الرفض والاستنكار دون محاولة للمناقشة المنطقية والموضوعية والعلمية، ومحاولة تحليل وتبسيط وجهة النظر العلمية لكي نعطي لرجال الدين المعلومات الكاملة والواضحة التي تساعدهم في إبداء الفتوى والرأي الديني في هذا الموضوع.
ولقد تناول هذا الكتاب أيضاً الجوانب المضيئة والإيجابية في علم الهندسة الوراثية والبيولوجيا الجزيئية التي قامت على أساسها فكرة الاستنساخ مثل تصنيع بدائل الدم الآدمي، وتصنيع الأعضاء البشرية أو استنساخها خارج الجسم ثم إعادة زراعتها مرة أخرى بدلاً من الأعضاء المريضة، والعلاج الجيني للكثير من الأمراض الموروثة مثل السرطان والأمراض النفسية والعقلية المختلفة.
