من منا لا يدرك مكانة الكمبيوتر في عالم اليوم، الذي اتسعت فيه مجالات استخدام التقنية وتقلصت الفوارق والحدود وأضحى العالم قرية صغيرة. لقد أصبحت مهارة استخدام الكمبيوتر عاملاً أساسياً يحدد نجتح المرء في عمله ويفتح أمامه أبواب التطوير المهني والترقي في مجالات العمل المختلفة. لكن قلة من الناس ما زالوا يعانون أمية ظاهرة فيما يتعلق بعلوم الكمبيوتر واستخدامه. ولكي لا يبقى هؤلاء بمعزلة عن حركة التقدم وضع هذا الكتاب وفقاً للمنهاج المقرر من المؤسسة العامة للتعليم الفني والتدريب المهني لكي يكون مرشداً للمتعلمين والمتطلعين إلى معرفة كل ما يتعلق بالكمبيوتر واستخداماته الشخصية.
والكتاب في سبعة فصول: الفصل الأول مقدمة عامة للتعريف بالكمبيوتر الشخصي وأنواع العمال التي يمكن القيام بها على الكمبيوتر وأنواع الكمبيوترات ومكنونات الكمبيوتر والتعريف بأجزائه. أما الفصل الثاني فيعرف بنظام التشغيل ويندز ومهامه. ويبين بالتفصيل الدقيق محتويات شريط المهام. وفي الفصل الثالث يعرض الكتاب لمعالجة النصوص (البرنامج وورد) كما يقدم شرحاً لطرق إنشاء الجداول ولدمج وتقسيم الخلايا، ولتنسيق الفقرات، ولإعادة حفظ المستند.
أما الفصل الرابع فيتناول الجداول الإلكترونية (البرامج اكسل) وهو يتيح للمستخدم تنظيم بياناته في لوائح ثم تلخيصها ومقارنتها وإظهارها 2. ويقدم الفصل الخامس شرحاً مفصلاً لقواعد البيانات (البرنامج اكسى) التي تساعد على تخزين المعلومات في تنسيق إلكترونى يمكن من التلاعب بالمعلومات بطرق فعالة لزيادة الاستفادة منها.
وفي الفصل السادس شرح وافٍ لعملية معالجة النصوص حيث يتمكن المستخدم من تطبيق مجموعة من الأنماط التي تساعد على تنسيق النصوص والفقرات. وأخيراً يقدم الفصل السابع برنامج المرشد العربي لتعليم الطباعة على لوحة المفاتيح العربية والإنكليزية المستعملة مع الكمبيوترات الشخصية المتوافقة مع IBM وعن طريق هذا البرنامج سيشعر المستخدم بازدياد مهاراته تدريجياً بحيث تزداد سرعته عند نهاية كل درس.
