يجمع هذا الكتاب، بين دفّتيه، أعمال ندوة عقدت في منتدى عبد الحميد شومان الثقافيّ، في الفترة من 18 - 2008/10/19، تحت عنوان (محمّد عدنان البخيت: مؤرّخاً، وموثّقاً، وأستاذاً، ومؤسساً) شاركت فيها نخبة من الباحثين والدارسين، ومن طلبة الدكتور البخيت ومحبّيه، الّذين قدّموا باقةً من الدراسات المعمّقة في أعمال البخيت التاريخيّة والفكريّة، إضافةً إلى مجموعة شهادات حول مسيرته المهنيّة والإنسانيّة، على مدار حياته الحافلة بالعطاء والإنجاز. وفي توطئتها للكتاب، تقول المؤرّخة والباحثة الدكتور هند أبو الشعر: "هذا المجلّد، الّذي أقدّمه للقرّاء، ليس عادياً، لأنّه لا يتحدّث عن رجل واحد هو ضيف منتدى شومان لعام 2008م، بل إنّه يؤرّخ للحياة الأكاديميّة في ثلاث جامعات، الأولى: الجامعة الأمّ، سيّدة الجامعات، الجامعة الأردنيّة، ثمّ جامعة مؤتة الّتي يحتفظ لها البخيت بذكريات حميمة وطيّبة، ثمّ الجامعة الّتي أسّسها في قلب البادية، جامعة آل البيت، وترك فيها جزءاً من روحه ووجدانه، وترك فيها رؤيته المستقبليّة وآليّته في التفكير. هذا على المحور الأكاديميّ، ثمّ إنّ المجلّد يرافق مراحل حياة البخيت بالتوثيق، بتأسيس أهمّ المراكز التوثيقيّة الجامعيّة في البلاد العربيّة، مركز الوثائق والمخطوطات، والتوثيق يعني مؤتمر بلاد الشام ولجنة تاريخ بلاد الشام؛ لأنّ المركز يعطي لبلاد الشام موقع الصدارة، وعندما يذكر التوثيق في الأردنّ، لا بدّ وأن تقفز صورة تاريخ بلاد الشام ومركز الوثائق والمخطوطات الّذي حظي بمكانة عالميّة مؤثّرة، ويكفي أنّنا كلّنا طلبة الدراسات العليا، وجدنا - وما زلنا حتّى اليوم - المقرّ التوثيقيّ الّذي لا يمكن أن يكون للبحث العلميّ مكانته في الأردنّ، بغير مركز الوثائق والمخطوطات!! ولا أدري إن كان الّذين عرفوا البخيت أستاذاً، استطاعوا متابعة جهوده في العمل من أجل بلاد الشام بعامّة، وفلسطين بشكل خاصّ، وقد سبق لي وان قدّمت قراءة في جهوده، نشرتها المجلّة المتميّزة في بيروت، مجلّة (الإجتهاد)، وتتبّعت جهوده في كتابة تاريخ بلاد الشام بعامّة وفلسطين بشكل خاصّ، ووجدته شاميّ الهوى بإمتياز، لكنّه يعرف لفلسطين حقّها علينا، ويعرف قداسة (بيت المقدس) حتّى أصبحت هاجسه، وأظنّها بالنسبة إليه (الملاذ)، إنّه اليوم مسكون بدراسة تاريخ بيت المقدس، محقّقاً ومترجماً للنصّ العثمانيّ، ومفسّراً، ودارساً ضمن مشروع نبيل، اسمه تاريخ بيت المقدس".
