يمثل علم بايولوجيا الإنسان أحد المساقات المهمة في التدريس الجامعي في الكليات العلمية والأدبية في معظم الجامعات والمعاهد العليا في أنحاء العالم، ويهتم هذا الحقل من المعرفة العملية والأكاديمية بدراسة طبيعة الجسم البشري من خلال التشريح Anatomy والفسيولوجيا Physiologiy وعلاقة الإنسان بالمحيط الحيوي Biosphere.
يمثل الإنسان قمة التنظيم البايولوجي للمادة الحية، فالخلية تمثل الوحدة الأساسية للحياة حيث يعد الإنسان من الأحياء متعددة الخلايا Multicellular إذ يتألق جسمه من العديد من أنواع الخلايا Cells وتكون الخلايا المتشابهة ما يسمى بالأنسجة Tissues، وتؤلف الأنسجة ما يسمى الأعضاء Organs وتؤلف مجموعة الأعضاء أجهزة Systems متخصصة لأداء وظائف محددة، تعمل أجهزة الجسم المختلفة سوية للمحافظة على الاتزان البدني Homeostasis والذي يمثل البيئة الداخلية التي تعيش فيها الخلايا الحية.
يهدف الكتاب الحالي وهو واحد من سلسلة "العلوم البيولوجية" إلى متابعة ما تمت دراسته في الجزء المعنون بـ "علم بيولوجيا الإنسان الهضم، الدوران، التنفس النقل العصبي". وذلك من خلال تعرضه للمواضيع التالية: الجهاز التناسلي، والأمراض المنقولة، عن طريق الممارسة الجنسية عير الشرعية، والنمو والشيخوخة والسرطان..
ومما تجدر الإشارة إليه هو أن الطالب الذي يدرس هذا المرجع العلمي المرموق يحصل على معارف علمية غزيرة حول جسم الإنسان وعن كيفية تكامل الجنس البشري مع المحيط الحيوي. تشمل موضوعات الكتاب جوانب تخص الطب والصحة العامة Health Focus تساعد الطالب في المستقبل على اختيار الغذاء المناسب وكيفية حماية حواس البصر والسمع وفحوصات مناسبة حول سرطان الثدي Breast Cancer وسرطان الخصية Testicular Cancer. تشمل موضوعات الكتاب أيضاً معطيات معلوماتية حول البيئة Ecology Focus من أجل توجيه الانتباه إلى بعض المشاكل البيئية مثل العلاقة بين ثقب الأوزون وسرطان الجلد ومخاطر التسمم بأول أوكسد الكربون والأهمية البيئية للتكنولوجيا الحياتية.
