محمد عبده (1849م - 1905م) عالم دين و فقيه و مجدد إسلامي مصري ، يعد أحد رموز التجديد في الفقه الإسلامي و من دعاة النهضة والإصلاح في العالم العربي والإسلامي ، ساهم بعد التقائه بأستاذه جمال الدين الأفغاني في إنشاء حركة فكرية تجديدية إسلامية في أواخر القرن التاسع عشر وبدايات القرن العشرين تهدف إلى القضاء على الجمود الفكري والحضاري و إعادة إحياء الأمة الإسلامية لتواكب متطلبات العصر.
يُعدّ "الإمام محمد عبده" واحدًا من أبرز المجددين في الفقه الإسلامي في العصر الحديث، وأحد دعاة الإصلاح وأعلام النهضة العربية الإسلامية الحديثة؛ فقد ساهم بعلمه ووعيه واجتهاده في تحرير العقل العربي من الجمود الذي أصابه لعدة قرون، كما شارك في إيقاظ وعي الأمة نحو التحرر، وبعث الوطنية، وإحياء الاجتهاد الفقهي لمواكبة التطورات السريعة في العلم، ومسايرة حركة المجتمع وتطوره في مختلف النواحي السياسية والاقتصادية والثقافية.
وقد تأثر به العديد من رواد النهضة مثل عبد الحميد بن باديس ورشيد رضا وعبدالرحمن الكواكبي.

الإمام " محمد عبده " أسم يلمع في سماء الفكر والدين . فهو ليس مجددا وحسب وإنما هو من أحى الدين بعد ان ماتت روحه وطفق المشايخ على عبادة جسد ميت جاء بالتنوير والتجديد ولكنه ليس التجديد باضافة ما هو جديد ولكن بإعادة الدين إلى أصله والبعد عن ركاكات لا تمت به بصلة أى تجليته مما عف عليه من الأفكار العقيمة غير المثمرة. فكان رجلا واعيا أخذ مهمة الإصلاح على عاتقة .. شخصية صعب ان تجود بمثلها الايام وهذه السلسلة تضم اعماله الكاملة بين دفتيها فنرى فيها سمو الافكار وعلوها .. نرى فيها ما يحي الأمة من جديد ويمنحها ما فقدته مع الأيام حتى أصبحت في ذيل ركب الأمم والحضارات.
الأعمال الكاملة للإمام محمد عبده فى خمسة أجزاء تناول فكره السياسى والاجتماعى والإصلاح الفكرى والتربوى والإلهيات، ثم تفسيره لسور القرآن، وتم تناول هذه الأعمال بالدراسة والتحقيق، مع سرد لحياته ومنجزاته.
